Fairhall School supports the promotion of a wide range of sports for students to actively take part in. Each year in Terms 1 and 3 our school’s Sports Co-ordinator arranges visits from most sporting codes to expose students to a variety of sports. We currently have school teams representing Fairhall School in Netball, Hockey, Volleyball, Basketball, and Tennis.
Annual events such as an athletics day, school swimming sports, cross country run, and the Marlborough Kids Duathalon also provide opportunities for students to try new physical experiences.
Athletics
We run two separate events for athletics at Fairhall School. In November each year, our Year 4 to 8 students take part in the rural schools’ athletics sports and our junior students hold their event on the school grounds in early December.
Swimming
We hold a whole school Swimming Sports event early in Term 1 each year. Our Blue Team students also take part in a swimming and water safety programme in Term 4 each year. Students who perform well in Year 5 to 8 are then selected to represent the school at the district championships.
Duathalon
The Marlborough Kids Duathlon is a fun event open to all primary school children over 6 years in Marlborough and is a fundraiser for the school. The Duathalon is organised by a group of Fairhall School parents but is run as a separate association known as Fairhall Fundraising Incorporated (FFI). FFI draw on the support of the school in terms of personnel and equipment to ensure the annual event is a success. A committee is established each year at the group’s AGM and planning for the November event gets underway early in March.
Cross Country
In Term 3 of each school year, we hold our whole school cross-country races. This takes place off-site at the nearby Wither Hills Farm Park. Fairhall School is also in charge of organising and running the district cross country races and will have a team of Year 5 to 8 students represented at this event.
Interschool Sports
Our Year 7 and 8 students are involved in a Winter Sports tournament with other full primary schools across the region. The tournament is a non-competitive event where students are intermingled with the participating school and the focus is on interaction and building relationships in a sporting environment.
Fairhall School also takes the opportunity when it arises to enter teams in events organised by the major codes such as Tackle Rugby, Rippa Rugby, Touch and Hockey.
Teams
The school enters teams in tennis, touch rugby, hockey, volleyball and cricket in the summer and netball, basketball and hockey in the winter. To do this successfully, we need parents to assist with the supervision and coaching.
Our school’s sports co-ordinator will call for coaches and support prior to the start of the season.
Depending on the sport being played students either wear the school sports uniform or they will be provided a sports uniform. It is essential that students be neatly presented to ensure the high standards of Fairhall School are upheld.
