At Fairhall School we are committed to a long-term sustainability journey in the nationwide Enviroschools programme where we aim for our tamariki to connect with and explore the environment, then plan, design and take action. Our school has a student driven Enviroschools Council made up of a group of Year 6 to 8 students and teachers who are passionate about leading our school to making a difference in the world we live in.
We are very proud to have held a Green Gold Enviroschool Award since 2011 for our environmental education programme. Children are empowered to take sustainable action within the school and community. An active Enviro Group helps promote activities such as recycling paper, looking after our composting system, promoting “pack it in, pack it out” for our plastic free lunch policy, maintaining the native garden etc.
Edible Garden
All students under the guidance of our Edible Garden facilitator are responsible for planting, tending and enjoying the produce from the edible garden.
Te Ngahere- Native Garden
The native garden belongs to the tamariki (students) and, wherever possible, it is developed and maintained by them. It supports native birdlife, is filled with sculptures created by school families and is often used by students during class and break times and for events such as the junior school poetry in the garden.
