The Walk:
The Ned peak is at 909m. The route is a steady uphill climb, mainly on 4WD track with a short 150m scramble to the trig at the top. The return trip is expected to take between three to five hours.
The 1st saddle, at approx 700m, has good views and could be a shorter walk option for some people (approx one hour less).
Registration:
Register at the event, on the day only. Walkers can begin anytime after they have registered as the event is NOT A RACE.
Entry Fee:
$15 Adult, $10 child, $40 Family.
Tramp The Ned is a community Fundraiser for the Fairhall School and the Tempello Bio-Diversity Project (see further info on this Website). Other Donations will be accepted with thanks.
Fitness required:
At 909m, The Ned is a moderately challenging hike. Walkers must have medium to above average fitness to complete the walk. All children must walk within range of adults.
The easiest option is to walk the valley floor to the base of The Ned hill track (50 minutes return). Suitable for families with young children (e.g. under 7) or for those who don’t like steep hills. Easy gradient.
It is essential to have GOOD FOOTWEAR for this walk!
Start Location and Parking:
Tramp The Ned will begin at the Taylor Pass Rd entrance to Tempello. This is approx 15km up the Taylor Pass Rd (from Alabama Rd roundabout), 2km AFTER the ford. The entrance will be well signposted. Parking for vehicles will be off the road, in a designated area. The walk will begin and end at this point (along with Registration, BBQ, water stand etc). Click here for a map.
Please car pool if you can.
There will also be plenty of parking available 10km up the Taylor Pass Road, on a flat paddock suitable for 2WD vehicles.
Just follow the signs and our friendly team of helpers will show you the way.
Food Available:
Friends of Fairhall will run a BBQ and have food available for purchase at the finish.
Tea and coffee will be available at registration.
Health and Safety:
There will be a Marshall station at the 1st saddle with First Aid and water available. Water will be available at the top also. Emergency vehicles and medical volunteers will be on hand.
