From the Principal Kia ora koutou. Welcome to Week 7 Welcome to Week 7. This week our seniors are tramping the Abel Tasman National Park, our Blue team – Year 1 to 4 students are bussing to the stadium for Fundamental Skills and teachers are working on completing student End of Year reports – a busy week for all. Technology Challenge Well done to our school’s Marlborough Technology Challenge team for taking out this year’s inter school Technology Challenge award. The team of four senior students represented our school at last Friday’s event and took out the top honours – well done Giulietta Doig, George Mason, Niko Cowley and Peyton Bull. Abel Tasman Tramp Our Year 8 students headed off to the Abel Tasman National Park on Monday and received a traditional farewell from the entire school as they left the school grounds. We have received a couple of photos showing a group of happy trampers. Today they will be packing up from Onetahuti Bay and heading on their final walk to Awaroa Hut. End of Year Graduation This year we will be holding a whole-school graduation ceremony in The whare Kahikatea on the second to last day of school, Thursday 15 December. This will be our final celebration of the school year and our official farewell to our Year 8 students. An open invitation to all extended family members is being offered. Our Year 8’s will be having a Graduation Dinner on the Wednesday evening prior to our final assembly. This is an event specially for our Year 8 students and their immediate family. Congratulations Triathletes Well done to Emma Anderson, Emily Mason and Maddie Thomas for their efforts in last weekend’s Well and Good Women’s Triathlon, held down at the Taylor River. The three students won the Social Team Section of the event in miserable conditions. Congratulations girls, great to see you about and about and doing so well. Food Bank and Marlborough 4 Paws Donations We like to contribute to the wider community at this time of year and so we ask that each student bring in an item to be donated to either the Foodbank or, this year we have included, Marlborough 4 Paws, a non for-profit organisation that helps out unwanted cats and dogs in our region. The donations have always been greatly received. All items need to be non-perishable please and festive items would be appreciated. Donations can be handed into the office or class teachers.Ngā mihi nui Steve Crockett Tumuaki / Principal Reminder Notices Reminder – Thanking our Volunteers We are holding a morning tea on Tuesday 6 December to thank our parent helpers and volunteers for the many programmes, activities and events we run throughout the school. We trust all who have been involved in some way across the school and throughout this year will be able to mark this date on their calendar. Reminder – New Families Introduction Deputy Principal, Aaron Sangster, will be holding an information session for all new families to Fairhall school. This will also be taking place on Tuesday morning, a little earlier, at 9.15AM. This session is for new families who have arrived at Fairhall School during the 2022 school year as well as for the start of 2023. Reminder – End of the School Day – Junior / Senior Playground It is wonderful seeing parents and whānau come back into the school grounds after school to visit classrooms, reconnect with their children’s teachers and view student’s learning. We do ask, however, that you keep your children with you and not allow them to play on the adventure playground. We do not have teachers on duty after school and so only allow bus students to use the main field and tennis courts until the second bus bell rings at around 3.05PM, all other students are expected to be collected after the 2:30 bell.Reminder – Fairhall School App Have you got our Fairhall School App? The goals are: At Fairhall School we are learning when to lead, when to follow, when to compete and when to cooperate. (Integrity) and At Fairhall School we are learning to recognise and celebrate success (Enjoyment). The school goals relate to our curriculum topics and at the end of each term we will be looking to celebrate with students who have achieved this goal. School Wide Whakataukī Each term our kura (school) has a whakataukī that aligns with our school inquiry focus. A whakataukī translates to whakatau (to settle) and kī (say), say something to settle. These proverbs are motivational and offer a unique way to reflect on our place and what we do. This term our school whakatuakī is: Me mahi tahi tātou mō te oranga o te katoa We should work together for the well-being of everyone We unpack these whakatuakī at school and relate it back to what we do/can do.
