From the Principal Kia ora koutou. Welcome to Week 6 We are not counting down yet, there is still too much to do before the end of the school year. This week we have been finishing off practice tramps and athletics training for our junior and district sports events. This Friday night will be a highlight for most students as the school disco will be held in Te whare Kahikatea. Senior students have been setting up a ticket booth each day for Year 1 to 6 students to purchase their disco tickets. Sales have been steady over the week and will continue until Friday. Abel Tasman Tramp Our Year 8 students have completed their practice tramps and are ready to take on the Abel Tasman National Park Tramp. They leave this coming Monday and will make their way from the start of the walk at Marahau and make their way to Awaroa before heading home on Friday. We wish them a successful tramp. FOFS Quiz Night A fantastic event took place last Friday night with our first ever major function taking place in Te whare Kahikatea. The first of many, no doubt. Congratulations to Friends of Fairhall School chair, Bec Wiffen and her team of helpers for organising such a fabulous, and successful event. Congratulations must go out to the winning team – a team name I won’t mention in this newsletter, but containing our current board Presiding Member, Steve Ross and our former Deputy principal and now ‘King of Concrete’, Colin Wood. Our staff team came a credible third so well done to them for their collaborative effort. Thanking our Volunteers We are holding a morning tea on Tuesday 6 December to thank our parent helpers and volunteers for the many programmes, activities and events we run throughout the school. We trust all who have been involved in some way across the school and throughout this year will be able to mark this date on their calendar. For catering purposes could you please RSVP to Jo as soon as possible. New Families Introduction Deputy Principal, Aaron Sangster, will be holding an information session for all new families to Fairhall school. This will also be taking place on Tuesday morning, a little earlier, at 9.15AM. This session is for new families who have arrived at Fairhall School during the 2022 school year as well as for the start of 2023. Ngā mihi nui Steve Crockett Tumuaki / Principal Reminder Notices Reminder – School Disco Our Year 8 seniors are running a Neon 80’s disco held on the 25th of November in Te whare Kahikatea. The junior disco is for our Blue team (Year 1-4) running from 6pm – 7.15pm and the senior disco for our Gold team (Year 5-8) running from 7.30pm to 9.00pm. Disco tickets will be sold from Thursday the 17th of November before school and after school. These tickets are $3 each. There will also be food available to buy on the night, so we recommend students bring cash to buy things. Reminder – End of the School Day – Junior / Senior Playground It is wonderful seeing parents and whānau come back into the school grounds after school to visit classrooms, reconnect with their children’s teachers and view student’s learning. We do ask, however, that you keep your children with you and not allow them to play on the adventure playground. We do not have teachers on duty after school and so only allow bus students to use the main field and tennis courts until the second bus bell rings at around 3.05PM, all other students are expected to be collected after the 2:30 bell.Reminder – Fairhall School App Have you got our Fairhall School App? This can help with keeping up to date on what’s happening at Fairhall and when. Users receive notifications, access to our school newsletters, calendar dates and school contacts. FAIRHALL PRIDE Pathway to EXCELLENCE School Goals Our school goals for Term Four focus on the PRIDE values of Integrity and Enjoyment. The goals are: At Fairhall School we are learning when to lead, when to follow, when to compete and when to cooperate. (Integrity) and At Fairhall School we are learning to recognise and celebrate success (Enjoyment). The school goals relate to our curriculum topics and at the end of each term we will be looking to celebrate with students who have achieved this goal. School Wide Whakataukī Each term our kura (school) has a whakataukī that aligns with our school inquiry focus. A whakataukī translates to whakatau (to settle) and kī (say), say something to settle. These proverbs are motivational and offer a unique way to reflect on our place and what we do. This term our school whakatuakī is: Me mahi tahi tātou mō te oranga o te katoa We should work together for the well-being of everyone We unpack these whakatuakī at school and relate it back to what we do/can do.
