From the Principal Kia ora koutou. This week we reach the middle of the school term with four and a half weeks remaining till we break for Christmas. If it sounds like I am counting down I can assure you that I am not. These remaining weeks are full of activity and learning as we prepare for ‘end of year’ reporting, Year 8 Tramp and graduation. Friends of Fairhall School (FOFS), under the guidance of Bec Wiffen have been busy preparing for this Friday nights, Quiz Night. This looks set to be a fun night for our community. Congratulations Aaron Sangster I wish to inform you that our wonderful Deputy Principal, Aaron Sangster, has successfully been appointed to the role of Principal at Ward School, commencing at the start of the 2023 school year. Aaron has been an integral part of our school journey over his 10 year tenure at Fairhall School and I’m sure you agree will be truly missed. With this we also acknowledge, congratulate and welcome Debbie Stanger as the new principal to Fairhall School, commencing at the start of 2023. We will keep you updated of our staffing changes as we confirm full staffing for next year. Abel Tasman Practice Tramp Our Year 8 students have been doing a number of preparation activities for this year’s Abel Tasman tramp. They have been involved in tent pitching, camp food cooking and practice tramps. The have one final practice tramp to go before they head into the National Park. Thankfully the tracks have now been cleared and they should not have any need to make changes to their original plan. Pine Valley Camp Our Year 4 students returned from Pine Valley last Friday and were full of smiles and excitement. It is so wonderful to see that they had a positive experience and will be well set up for their future camping and tramping experiences. School Disco Our Year 8 seniors are running a Neon 80’s disco held on the 25th of November in Te whare Kahikatea. The junior disco is for our Blue team (Year 1-4) running from 6pm – 7.15pm and the senior disco for our Gold team (Year 5-8) running from 7.30pm to 9.00pm. Disco tickets will be sold from Thursday the 17th of November before school and after school. These tickets are $3 each. There will also be food available to buy on the night, so we recommend students bring cash to buy things. FOFS Quiz Night It’s all on this Friday night as Friends of Fairhall host a fun event for our community. Tickets have been sold and the organising committee are all set to go. Proceeds from this event will go towards new furniture for Te whare Kahikatea and our library – Te Rūma Rimu. Ngā mihi nui Steve Crockett Tumuaki / Principal Reminder Notices Reminder – End of the School Day – Junior / Senior Playground It is wonderful seeing parents and whānau come back into the school grounds after school to visit classrooms, reconnect with their children’s teachers and view student’s learning. We do ask, however, that you keep your children with you and not allow them to play on the adventure playground. We do not have teachers on duty after school and so only allow bus students to use the main field and tennis courts until the second bus bell rings at around 3.05PM, all other students are expected to be collected after the 2:30 bell. Reminder – Fairhall School App Have you got our Fairhall School App? This can help with keeping up to date on what’s happening at Fairhall and when. Users receive notifications, access to our school newsletters, calendar dates and school contacts. Check out our app features HERE. Download the SchoolAppsNZ now – visit Google Play Store. School Wide Whakataukiī Each term our kura (school) has a whakataukī that aligns with our school inquiry focus. A whakataukī translates to whakatau (to settle) and kī (say), say something to settle. These proverbs are motivational and offer a unique way to reflect on our place and what we do. This term our school whakatuakī is: Me mahi tahi tātou mō te oranga o te katoa We should work together for the well-being of everyone We unpack these whakatuakī at school and relate it back to what we do/can do.
