From the Principal Kia ora koutou. Welcome to week 7. This week is Conservation Week and classes have been doing their bit for a better and healthier environment by taking action in environmental sustainability. We welcome Mark from Dance Curriculum back with us for the next week and a half and we have Genevieve MacDonald from Life Education supporting our school’s Health Education programmes and focusing in on well-being. Dance Curriculum Break Dancing King of New Zealand, Mark Yum, returns to Fairhall for our two week dance programme where all students take part in and learn a series of dance routines. These routine practices will be followed up with a school performance at the end of next week. The performance will take place on the afternoon of Friday 16 September between 1.00pm and 2.30pm. We will confirm our times by next Wednesday but are likely to start with our junior students and then work our way through to the senior school finale. Parents are most welcome to join in the fun and to see how well the students perform. Life Education We welcome back Genevieve MacDonald (and Harold) from the Life Education Trust. Where possible we incorporate Life Education into our school’s Health Education programmes and this year we have plenty of reasons to build on and create opportunities to promote and support well-being. Students are working on a range of activities including handling their emotions and building resilience. Congratulations We congratulate two students: Molly Allen and Myer Henderson-Watt on their recent horse riding success. Both girls have been selected for the South Island Show Hunter Junior Rider Camp in Christchurch this weekend. Last weekend Molly and her pony Josh, were the overall winners of the Marlborough Show Hunter Winter Series. Well done Molly. Reminder – New Enrolments 2023 and beyond If you have any children starting school next year or over the next few years please ensure the school is aware of this. Enrolment forms can be requested and collected from the school office. Shortly we will be planning for spaces available for any ‘out of zone’ enrolments and we need to know who is ‘in-zone’ in the first instance. Reminder – End of the School Day – Junior / Senior Playground It is wonderful seeing parents and whānau come back into the school grounds after school to visit classrooms, reconnect with their children’s teachers and view student’s learning. We do ask, however, that you keep your children with you and not allow them to play on the adventure playground. We do not have teachers on duty after school and so only allow bus students to use the main field and tennis courts until the second bus bell rings at around 3.05PM, all other students are expected to be collected after the 2:30 bell. Reminder – Fairhall School App Have you got our Fairhall School App? This can help with keeping up to date on what’s happening at Fairhall and when. Users receive notifications, access to our school newsletters, calendar dates and school contacts. Check out our app features HERE. Download the SchoolAppsNZ now – visit Google Play Store. Once you have downloaded the SchoolAppsNZ – you then search for Fairhall School. Reminder – School donation Each year we ask parents to pay a donation to the school. The donation is $220 per child and can be paid in contribution amounts over the school year or in one lump sum. Your donation helps the school in purchasing resources and hiring personnel to assist with our overall school programmes. In advance I thank you for your contribution. We are privileged to have such a supportive school community in this area of financial support. School Wide Whakataukiī Each term our kura (school) has a whakataukī that aligns with our school inquiry focus. A whakataukī translates to whakatau (to settle) and kī (say), say something to settle. These proverbs are motivational and offer a unique way to reflect on our place and what we do. This term our school whakatuakī is:I orea te tuatara ka puta ki waho A problem is solved by continuing to find solutions We unpack these whakatuakī at school and relate it back to what we do/can do.
