From the Principal Kia ora koutou. Welcome to week 6. This week is Book Week and we have Te Whare Kahikatea set out for our school’s Book Fair. Parents are welcome to come in to school to have a look at what we have available. The fair will continue throughout the week culminating on a final favourite character ‘Dress-up day’ on Friday. Daffodil Day Last Friday we celebrated Daffodil Day. Our students and staff dressed up in yellow and offered a Gold coin donation for the Marlborough Cancer Society. Once again it was a successful day and the generosity of our Fairhall community helped by raising a total of $361.40. Harcourts Marlborough Kids Duathlon A further reminder to families that if you have not registered your children for this event to do so sooner rather than later. The ordering of T-Shirts has been extended to Sunday 4 September 2022 so you have until this coming Sunday to get your child’s registration in if you also want a T-Shirt. As well, we are still asking for luxury item donations for our raffle. These items can be added to the donation box in the school’s reception area. New Enrolments – In Zone We are asking all ‘in-zone’ parents to check in on any ‘in-zone families’ who have pre-school age children. This is to see if they have enrolled their children into primary school or at least notified a primary school of a potential enrolment. Shortly we will be considering whether or not we have spaces available for any ‘out of zone’ enrolments. We need to confirm our ‘in zone’ numbers in the first instance and so we would appreciate your help here. We ask these people to contact the school as soon as possible. Dance Curriculum – Next Week Next week we begin our school’s biennial dance programme which will run over weeks 7 and 8 of this term. This is where we bring in dance professionals to take each class through a series of lessons and routines with the culmination of a whole school dance performance presented to our community. The cost for this is $30 per student and is a reduction from the original cost which parents have had to pay in the past. This also works out to be $3 per dance session.Payment for this can be made at any time from now and over the next two weeks. Netball Success We congratulate all our netball teams for a successful season of sport. Finals were completed last Saturday and we had our Senior A team take part in their grand final against Renwick School. The team started off strongly and by the end of the first quarter held a clear advantage. Renwick came back strongly in the middle two quarters which carried on into the first part of the final quarter. Our Fairhall girls finished strongly but fell short at the final whistle by just two goals. The girls gave it everything and I admired their Determination in playing to the final whistle. As a result, at the end of season prize-giving the team were awarded the President’s Cup for conduct, punctuality and dress. Also to receive a special award was player, Isabella Frew, who was awarded ‘Best Year 7&8 Attacking Player’. Well done all. Unfortunately the photo provided is minus two players: Erin Gleeson and Ellie Ross. Future All Black Congratulations goes to Mason Newton for an outstanding season playing rugby. Mason stole the show at his recent club prize-giving with trophies, medals and certificates. Mason’s medal was for being part of the 100 points + club where this season he scored more than 100 points for his team – WOW, 20 tries or more! Mason also took out Player of the Year for his team. Senior School Visit from Rapaura Our senior school students have a close association with senior students from Rapaura School and this term it is our turn to host our visitors. The students interact for the day in sporting activity as well as learning challenges based on STEM activity – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The afternoon concludes with the traditional rugby clash – ‘Touch’. Ngā mihi nui Steve Crockett Principal From the Board of Trustees Just a reminder about this year’s Board of Trustee Elections. We received six nominations for the three parent trustee positions to be contended this year. You should have already received your voting papers, but if not then please contact Jo in the office. Reminder – New Enrolments 2023 and beyond If you have any children starting school next year or over the next few years please ensure the school is aware of this. Enrolment forms can be requested and collected from the school office. Shortly we will be planning for spaces available for any ‘out of zone’ enrolments and we need to know who is ‘in-zone’ in the first instance.Reminder – End of the School Day – Junior / Senior Playground It is wonderful seeing parents and whānau come back into the school grounds after school to visit classrooms, reconnect with their children’s teachers and view student’s learning. We do ask, however, that you keep your children with you and not allow them to play on the adventure playground. We do not have teachers on duty after school and so only allow bus students to use the main field and tennis courts until the second bus bell rings at around 3.05PM, all other students are expected to be collected after the 2:30 bell.Reminder – Fairhall School App Have you got our Fairhall School App? This can help with keeping up to date on what’s happening at Fairhall and when. Users receive notifications, access to our school newsletters, calendar dates and school contacts. Check out our app features HERE. Download the SchoolAppsNZ now – visit Google Play Store. Once you have downloaded the SchoolAppsNZ – you then search for Fairhall School. Reminder – School donation Each year we ask parents to pay a donation to the school. The donation is $220 per child and can be paid in contribution amounts over the school year or in one lump sum. Your donation helps the school in purchasing resources and hiring personnel to assist with our overall school programmes. In advance I thank you for your contribution. We are privileged to have such a supportive school community in this area of financial support. The goals are: At Fairhall School we are learning to be equitable and ethical in the decisions you make, and act on them. (Integrity) and At Fairhall School we are learning to actively seek, use and create knowledge. (Personal Best). The school goals relate to our curriculum topics and at the end of each term we will be looking to celebrate with students who have achieved this goal. School Wide Whakataukiī Each term our kura (school) has a whakataukī that aligns with our school inquiry focus. A whakataukī translates to whakatau (to settle) and kī (say), say something to settle. These proverbs are motivational and offer a unique way to reflect on our place and what we do. This term our school whakatuakī is:I orea te tuatara ka puta ki waho A problem is solved by continuing to find solutions We unpack these whakatuakī at school and relate it back to what we do/can do.
