Week 4 Term 2 2022 From the Principal Kia ora koutou. Welcome to Week 4. We had a wonderful day last Friday celebrating ‘World Day for Cultural Diversity’. The celebrations began early in the morning with Rūma Pohutukawa, our Year 2 / 3 class, leading the school at Kidszone. We had a wonderful turnout of parents to this weekly assembly and were greeted with the welcoming languages of our school community cultures with a few other languages thrown in the mix. Students from all ages arrived at school, many acknowledging their cultural heritage and, as an extra special treat, the whole school experienced Pasifica with local artist and performer, Vita Vaka. For many years now there has been a growing Pasifika presence throughout the Marlborough region and although that presence is not within our school community it is certainly important for the school to embrace and experience all cultures. Our study of inquiry for this term looks into our culture and history as a nation. Four key areas of focus include: – New Zealand is multicultural with bi-cultural foundations – New Zealand has changed over time – Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles are important for New Zealand – Cultures are expressed in many ways And – We can learn from what has occurred in the past. Tongariro Camp Meeting Next Wednesday, 8 June at 7pm we will hold an important meeting for parents of students who are currently in Years 5, 6 and 7. This meeting is to inform you of the up and coming 2023 Year 6 to 8 Tongariro Camp. Reminder – School Office Unattended For the remainder of this week and through to next Thursday the school office will be unattended in the afternoons from 12.30PM to 4.30PM. Please ensure all arrangements for your children are made before they come to school each day. Ngā mihi nui Steve Crockett Principal Reminder Notices Reminder – Early Starters With the winter kicking in we are a little concerned about the number of students who do not travel to school by bus but are still arriving at school before 8AM. While we do have staff on-site our teachers are required to use this time in preparation. We are reviewing our policies and procedures around this, however, please ensure your child is dropped off at school between 8.00AM and 8.15AM each morning and not before. Reminder – Fairhall School App Have you got our Fairhall School App? This can help with keeping up to date on what’s happening at Fairhall and when. Users receive notifications, access to our school newsletters, calendar dates and school contacts. Check out our app features HERE. Download the SchoolAppsNZ now – visit Google Play Store. Once you have downloaded the SchoolAppsNZ – you then search for Fairhall School. Reminder – Drop Off Zone Please be aware that the drop off zone is not a space for parents to get out of the car to help students get in or out of cars. If you are using the two parks for drop off then you are expecting your child/children to get out by themselves and come into school. If you are using the two parks for pick-up then your child/children are ready and waiting to get into your car by themselves. Reminder – Picking Up students after school We ask that you do not stop to collect your children in the driveway between the Bus Zone and the Drop Off Zone. The middle gate for crossing the road is not a pick-up zone and needs to be kept free to allow traffic to flow. Our Drop Off Zone has spaces for two vehicles only. If you are the third vehicle please move on into an angle parking spaces to let vehicles through. Reminder – School donation Each year we ask parents to pay a donation to the school. The donation is $220 per child and can be paid in contribution amounts over the school year or in one lump sum. Your donation helps the school in purchasing resources and hiring personnel to assist with our overall school programmes. In advance I thank you for your contribution. We are privileged to have such a supportive school community in this area of financial support. Reminder – Student Success Please let the school know if your child has achieved some amazing results outside of school life. We would love to celebrate this at school with our classes and within our Fairhall School community. Often our tamariki do some amazing things that don’t get noticed or mentioned in the local media or are overly humble and do not tell us. Feel free to let us know when something great has happened. Reminder – Kidszone Friday Kidzone is our weekly school assembly, run by the ‘kids’. Parents are welcome to join us in our new multi-purpose space, Kahikatea, at 8.40AM. We do recommend that parents attending wear a mask. |

(Determination) and At Fairhall School we are learning to show a positive attitude and participate appropriately. (Enjoyment). The school goals relate to our curriculum topics and at the end of each term we will be looking to celebrate with students who have achieved this goal. School Wide Whakataukiī Each term our kura (school) has a whakataukī that aligns with our school inquiry focus. A whakataukī translates to whakatau (to settle) and kī (say), say something to settle. These proverbs are motivational and offer a unique way to reflect on our place and what we do. This term our school whakatuakī is: Manaaki whenua, manaaki tangata, haere whakamua. Care for the land, care for the people, move forward. We unpack these whakatuakī at school and relate it back to what we do/can do.
