Fairhall School Policies & Procedures
Our school works on a subscription basis with SchoolDocs to maintain, update, and review our policies. SchoolDocs provides us with a comprehensive core set of policies, which have been well-researched and follow the Ministry of Education National Administration Guidelines. The policies and procedures are tailored to our school.
SchoolDocs updates, modifies, or creates policies in response to changes in legislation or Ministry guidelines, significant events, reviews/requests from schools, feedback from whānau and regular reviewing from the SchoolDocs team. Our Board has the opportunity to view changes/additions and comment on them before they are implemented. We will advise you through our school newsletter when policies are up for review and how you can take part in the review.
We invite you to visit our policies web page at http://fairhall.schooldocs.co.nz

Cell Phones
These are not permitted for use at school by children. However, by arrangement with the class teacher and principal, cell phones may be handed to the office at the start of the day and collected at the end of the day.
Concerns & Complaints Procedure
If you ever have a complaint or concern, please discuss this with the class teacher first. If you need to, you can then talk with the Team leader/DP and then the Principal if necessary. Our FS Concerns & Complaints Procedure is available via SchoolDocs (see details above) and at the office.
Celebrating the positive | Behaviour expectations
Fairhall School has high expectations of its students.
Celebrating the positive at Fairhall School
- Verbal feedback
- Class rewards – sticker charts, marble jars etc
- Yellow ribbons – everyone able to give these
- KidZone Awards – one per class weekly
- The Poutama Prize & PRIDE Cup – weekly at KidZone Hui for presenting class
- Colour teams – all children have a colour team they are assigned to when they start at Fairhall School.
- These are used for activities, colour points, and golden grapes – weekly at KidZone Hui.
- Termly prizes/celebrations
Sometimes things don’t go as planned. We have steps in class and across the school to support children and staff when managing any behaviour incidents.
Sunsmart
We are a Sunsmart-accredited school. All children are required to wear a wide-brimmed sun hat (no caps) in Terms 1 and 4 during lunch and breaks at school and when involved in outdoor school activities.
Wrapper free
At Fairhall School we have an Enviroschool policy so we ask that packed lunches are wrapper-free and any waste not suitable for the schools compost is packed back home.
Attendance / Absences
Children are required to attend school on all the days that the school is open. They should arrive on time for school with enough time to prepare for the day. In the event of your child not coming to school for any reason please let the school know before 8.30 am via the Edge app or with a phone call. For safety, we take a check of absences every morning and we will contact you if your child is absent without prior notification.
Illness
If your child is sick or showing signs of sickness please do not send them to school. An unwell child is not going to function properly at school and this will in turn affect the learning of others. Please notify the school of your child’s sickness.
