Following the construction of the new carpark the Year 2 and 3 students of te Rūma Pōhutukawa noticed that the front of our school needed some beautification. We decided to go and explore this area. We took our measuring equipment to sketch up the garden areas that were not planted. We looked at the plants in our existing beautiful native ngahere (garden), to gather some information about what plants would be best to go at the front of the school. The students researched the growth sizes of plants and created a planting plan. Our next task was to learn about how plants should be planted and what they needed to grow the best. Finally, we tidied up the plants ready for planting. We know that today the plants are small and we will need to nurture them to become healthy, strong plants. When we are in Year 8 we will be able to reflect on what we did to help our school look the best it can. We are excited and proud about our beautification project. Here are some pictures of our journey.
