Welcome to Week 3
This being the first of two short school weeks allows families to make the most of the extra sunshine hours we have been getting as we head into the Spring season. Our teaching staff had a most successful planning day yesterday and have some exciting ideas to deliver across the school in 2020. At this point, however, we will put the planning work aside and focus on the remainder of the 2019 school year.
Tongariro / Abel Tasman Practice Tramp #1
The first of our practice tramps for the Year 8 tramp into the Abel Tasman National Park, and for next year’s Year 6 to 8 Tongariro Crossing camp went very well. Tramping 110 students and 25 adults up and down hills for two hours is not an easy task but the first practice tramp for the year was achieved with a pleasing outcome. We now set our sights on practice tramp number 2 which will take place on the Wither Hills on November 7.
School Staffing for 2020
We are in the process of organising our teaching staff placements for the 2020 school year following staff appraisal meetings and teacher discussions. I will aim to confirm this with the community next week. However, at this stage we have placed an advertisement with the New Zealand Education Gazette for a one-year fixed-term teaching position commencing in Term 1, 2020.
Friday Kidszone – 1 November
This Friday we will be holding our kidszone assembly either in the school grounds or in the library, depending on the weather. The Community Hall has been booked out for another event which is beyond our control. Parents are welcome to attend our Kidszone. If it is in the library please be aware that it will be quite a squeeze.
Boys’ College Testing
This Friday our Year 8 boys who will be attending Marlborough Boys’ College next year will be visiting the college this Friday morning. Information regarding this testing day has been sent home and the senior boys will be supported by Deputy Principal, Colin Wood, for the morning.

Community Consultation – Final Reminder
We have set up a table with a box in the school Office entrance for you to post comments on two key areas: our Learning Environment and our level of Cultural Awareness across the school. We have set this out asking for ‘2 Stars and a Wish’ – 2 things we are doing well at Fairhall School and one thing we could do or do better. Look out for the table with the yellow and black box.
Or if you prefer to do this ‘on-line’ click HERE for the Cultural Awareness Feedback form and HERE for the Learning Environment form.
